Publications

EJA (European Journal of Anaesthesiology) and EJAIC (European Journal of Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care) are official ESAIC journals. EJA, with over 40 years of history, publishes high-quality research, reviews, and guidelines in anaesthesiology and intensive care. EJAIC, launched in 2022, is a fully Open-Access journal focused on the rapid publication of high-quality peer-reviewed content, including experimental and pilot studies.

EJA and EJAIC: Advancing Anaesthesiology Through Trusted Publications

In 2024, EJA reaffirmed its commitment to scientific excellence by prioritising manuscript quality and relevance over Impact Factor, following ESAIC’s endorsement of the CoARA declaration. This shift improved the editorial triage process and upheld rigorous scientific standards. The journal balanced key content types—guidelines, critical reviews, and pro/con debates—while integrating new criteria such as AI usage in updated guidelines. Complemented by ESAIC podcasts and videos, EJA continues to serve as a trusted global resource.

In 2024, submissions rose by 3.8% (from 936 to 972), marking a positive trend. Original articles and reviews have increased, and guideline submissions have doubled, reaching levels last seen in 2017.

ESAIC Newsletter Strategy Overview – Content Evolution and Member-Centred Focus

Building on the success of the 2023 strategy, the ESAIC newsletter continues to evolve in 2024 with a sharpened focus on member relevance, cross-platform integration, and dynamic storytelling.

The bi-monthly schedule remains in place, supported by strengthened editorial coordination to ensure each issue delivers high-quality, curated content. In 2024, there is an increased emphasis on timely updates, alignment with ESAIC's broader campaigns, and greater visibility for key society initiatives, such as Euroanaesthesia, Research-led projects, Guidelines, Education and Scientific programmes, Patient Safety-centric initiatives, and Sustainability efforts.

Community engagement remains central. The newsletter now features more first-person perspectives, thematic series, and contributions that reflect the diverse experiences of ESAIC members across Europe and beyond. This approach reinforces the newsletter’s role not only as an informative channel but also as a platform for dialogue and shared identity within the society.

With a continued commitment to clarity, consistency, and value, the 2024 strategy ensures the newsletter remains a vital touchpoint — connecting members, celebrating their work, and supporting ESAIC’s strategic priorities.
