Patient Safety

The ESAIC remains committed to its vision of a healthcare system free from preventable patient harm. In 2024, the Patient Safety and Quality Committee (PSQC) advanced this mission through impactful educational activities, strategic collaborations, and resource development. The PSQC continued to promote the principles of the Helsinki Declaration and expanded its work with national societies to drive systemic improvements in patient safety.

A highlight of the year was the successful delivery of several sold-out educational events:

Safer Care to Save Lives (SCSL)

The Safer Care to Save Lives (SCSL) project achieved a major milestone with the full release of all five modules in the European Patient Safety Course (EPSC), now available via the ESAIC Academy. In addition, an updated version of the APSC Student Manual was released, and development began on the TTT Teachers’ Manual.

To expand the reach and sustainability of APSC, the PSQC launched a cascade model in collaboration with national societies. In 2024, agreements were signed with four countries: Turkey, Portugal, Greece, and Italy—marking a significant step towards local implementation and ownership of patient safety education.

Other key developments

  • Finalisation of the PRiPSAIC Toolkit, now freely available to the medical community via the ESAIC website.
