Partnerships
The ESAIC collaborates with industry, national societies, and specialist societies to promote advances in anaesthesia and intensive care. The Industry Partnership provides industry participants with opportunities for visibility and engagement with ESAIC members, allowing them to better understand specific needs in anaesthesia and intensive care. This partnership provides educational resources as well as opportunities for collaborative projects that benefit science, education, and patient safety.
Industry
In 2024, ESAIC continued to strengthen its collaboration with industry through meaningful partnerships focused on innovation and sustainability. At Euroanaesthesia 2024, this commitment was brought to life in the Innovation Village—a dedicated space within the exhibition designed to foster dialogue and exchange between healthcare professionals, researchers, and industry representatives. Organised around three core themes: Connectivity, Neuroscience, and Sustainability, the village featured expert-led talks, interactive displays, and informal discussion zones. Sustainability was a key focus, with ESAIC Sustainability Committee members joining forces with industry partners to explore greener practices in anaesthesiology and intensive care. Building on the success of the “Dear Green Place” in 2023, this format encouraged open conversations and collaborative thinking, reinforcing ESAIC’s commitment to advancing environmentally responsible solutions through industry engagement.

National Societies
In 2024, the National Anaesthesiologists Societies Committee (NASC) continued to play a key role in strengthening collaboration, research, and advocacy across Europe. The Committee contributed to three major peer-reviewed publications on anaesthesia practice, training standardisation, and working conditions during pregnancy—highlighting ESAIC’s commitment to evidence-based policy and workforce well-being.

NASC also advanced its research efforts through the THIRST study, a large-scale project assessing current preoperative fluid fasting practices across 12 countries, involving 45 centres and 5,000 patients. This study aims to evaluate adherence to the ESAIC 2011 guidelines and promote best practices in patient preparation. These initiatives reinforce NASC’s mission to foster cross-border cooperation, improve standards of care, and support the professional development of anaesthesiologists throughout Europe.
International and Specialist Societies
In 2024, the Society continued to strengthen its global presence and foster meaningful collaboration with both international and specialist societies. Formal Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) remained in place with key international partners, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), Japanese Society of Anesthesiologists (JSA), Korean Society of Anesthesiologists (KSA), New York State Society of Anesthesiologists (NYSSA), Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology (SBA), São Paulo Society of Anesthesiology (SAESP), and the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA). In addition, active partnerships continued with specialist societies such as the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (EACTAIC) and the European Society for Paediatric Anaesthesiology (ESPA). These collaborations support joint initiatives, knowledge exchange, and educational opportunities that enhance the Society’s reach and impact.
