Fellowship (FESAIC)
Becoming a Fellow of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (FESAIC™) is a distinguished recognition awarded to healthcare professionals who have made significant contributions to the fields of anaesthesiology and intensive care. This honour celebrates members' professional achievements while supporting the ongoing advancement of the speciality.
In 2024, 15 FESAIC titles were awarded to exceptional doctors from Europe and beyond, acknowledging their impact on the field. The new Fellows received their recognition at Euroanaesthesia 2024 in Munich, following the tradition established in previous years.

15 mentor–mentee pairs have been selected for the 2024–2026 cycle, which officially kicked off at Euroanaesthesia 2024 in Munich. This two-year programme supports early-career researchers in anaesthesiology and intensive care by pairing them with experienced mentors to foster academic growth, research skills, and professional development. Regular one-on-one guidance and collaborative goal setting are central to the experience. The cycle includes dedicated workshops and activities to support participants throughout the mentorship journey.
Mentorship Programme
2024-2026 Programme

The Exchange Programme Committee has expanded its mission to include both trainees and early-career specialists, offering more diverse training opportunities across Europe.
In 2024, a call for training received 67 applications, with 28 successful placements in leading European host centres (16 Hands-on training and 12 Observerships).
Throughout the years, the ESAIC has established a collaboration with over 30 Host Centres offering training on Cardiac Anaesthesia, Thoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia, Neuroanaesthesia and Trauma, Paediatrics and Neonatal Anaesthesia, Regional anaesthesia and Pain, Obstetric Anaesthesia, Transplantation and ICM and Simulation.

The Committee for European Education in Anaesthesiology (CEEA Committee) continued the implementation of its revised curriculum in 2024, following the updates made in alignment with the European Training Requirement (ETR) in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care. The new curriculum has now been adopted by many CEEA centres, with very positive feedback received from Course Directors regarding its structure, content, and relevance.
To support implementation and exchange among centres, the Committee convened a dedicated meeting during Euroanaesthesia 2024 in Munich. In addition, a virtual meeting with CEEA Directors was held in September, providing a platform to share challenges, updates, and best practices across regions.
In 2024, CEEA courses were delivered in 11 countries, engaging over 1,000 participants, an encouraging sign of the renewed momentum of this longstanding ESAIC initiative.
CEEA and ATAIC
Committee for European Education in Anaesthesiology (CEEA) Course

The ATAIC is offered voluntarily to academic anaesthesia departments that apply for teaching accreditation per the European Training Requirements. In 2024, the departments of anaesthesiology of the following hospitals were (re)accredited based on face-to-face visits:
- Larissa University Hospital, Larisa, Greece (5 years)
- Hospital Oost Limburg, Genk, Belgium (5 years)
In addition, the following visits were prepared in 2024 and are scheduled for early 2025:
- Istanbul University Medical Faculty, Turkey (visit planned for February 2025)
- Mersin University Hospital, Mersin, Turkey (visit planned for March 2025)
Throughout the year, the ATAIC programme was actively promoted through various ESAIC channels, including the Newsletter, LinkedIn, Euroanaesthesia 2024 in Munich, and national society events. In addition, three core ATAIC documents were updated to include topics on resident fatigue management, sustainability practices, and awareness of EDAIC.
The Accreditation of Training in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ATAIC)

In 2024, ESAIC trainees played a dynamic role across the Society’s educational and strategic initiatives. From contributing to exam content development and hosting engaging sessions at Euroanaesthesia, to launching the new Trainees’ Ambassador Programme representing 22 countries, their impact was both visible and wide-reaching. With increased social media presence and direct dialogue with ESAIC leadership, trainees helped shape the conversation on mobility, education, and future opportunities within anaesthesiology and intensive care.
